I thought that the actual writing was engraved, but it appears to be stamped in ink. It is still very beautiful. When we originally received it, the lid was just a tiny bit tilted. I contacted them and within 30 minutes they got back in touch with me and said they will ship me a new one ASAP. The next day it was mailed and since I originally paid for rush shipping, they had the new one delivered the next day and it was perfect. Customer service was amazing. Will definitely order from them again.

 Beautiful workLove the engraved Navigator Compass...only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the magnetized compass. It is not a geographical compass and I am afraid that the boys will not be able to figure out how to use this. I don't really understand it. But it really is a symbol of God's guidance in life.

Very nice! I was pleased with how this looked. I got it for my grandson's confirmation. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the compass itself looked more black than mahogany. The mahogany look is certainly in the picture but that is not how mine looked. However, the gold and engraving was right on and being a Boy Scout as well, it was a very appropriate gift.

Beautiful First Holy Communion Gift Were purchased for our children from an aunt, and they came in perfectly wrapped. The inscription is a plus, and very nice. However wish there was more room for the name of the person giving the compass as it will be a forever shared gift. We managed to squeeze it in with the date somehow!

Nice gift for my outdoor enthusiast nephew on his confirmation. I was happy to see this item when it arrived, and my nephew thought it was a cool gift. The message is not so much "engraved" as it is "printed," but it was done well and my nephew liked seeing his name on the top plate. One note—As a gift, this little compass would benefit from a small decorative box. The little box it arrives in is covered in origin stickers and bar codes, that—when peeled—destroy the box. I had to put this in a nice box so it would be presentable as a gift. The little cardboard box would be fine, but maybe PM should consider leaving the stickers off. Also, I was a little bummed to pay about $75 for this item and, upon returning to write a review, discover that the price had dropped to $49 in that short time—whatever. Ultimately, I do recommend this item as well as this web site for nice gifts and good turnaround service. I merely offer the above as a little heads up to the next buyer. Cheers!

Navigator compass The compass, engraving and case are beautiful! Not sure of the compass accuracy, if it is accurate or decorative. It is a gift for our confirmand. I am pleased with my purchase.

Not quite what I expected The color of the mahogany is really more of a black. At first I thought they had sent the black version, but since it had the gold insert, it must be mahogany... Also, it arrived with a minor flaw in the top.

A Nice Momento By Shopper (Billerica, MA) - May 3, 2021 I purchased this for my grandson's First Communion. He seemed to like it but he is a Boy Scout and into outdoor activities so began to use it as a compass. I am not sure how good this item would be for taking around to use for that purpose. I think that it is more or less commemorative. It does look nice and sends a religious message.

 Does not look like woodThe Mahogany doesn't look like wood, at first I thought I accidently ordered the black. It's dark shiny plastic with a kind of brown color. The engraved plate also has 2 tiny notches / cutouts that look like a mistake but it's not a mistake as you can see them if you look very carefully in the preview photo.
